Picture yourself with the six iconic Dr. Seuss sculptures; make friends with William Joyce's "Guardians of Childhood;" search for Walter Wick's beloved character, Seymour; and fall in love with David Shannon's "David & Fergus."

Come back year after year and watch our treasured collection grow. The annual Children's Art and Literacy Festival is a 3 day family friendly event celebrating art, children and literacy and transforms downtown into a magical storybook land. During the event new sculptures are unveiled each year. It's a must see!

All over the world men, women and children are driven by a fascination of the “Wild West.” Today in Abilene, the intriguing story is told by life-size holograms at Frontier Texas! Experience the big picture of the Texas Frontier between 1780 and 1880 as the story comes to life in this multi-media facility. Frontier Texas! allows visitors to meet – at least figuratively – some of the real people who live and died on the Texas frontier.

In downtown Abilene, catch a star at the Paramount Theatre, a fully restored art deco movie theatre and shows classic films on weekends. The Grace Museum, a beautifully restored 1909 hotel, which houses three museums; a Historical Museum; the active Children’s Museum and the Art Museum proudly rotate world class exhibits.

The National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature is the first one of its kind in the nation featuring art exhibits from children's books. 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum houses the Division’s historical collection, serves as a teaching museum and provides educational programs.

Feed a giraffe and discover your wild side on-board the Abilene Zoo’s Safari Express. A few miles south of Abilene, the story of the last 50 years of frontier life is told at the Buffalo Gap Historic Village.

Transportation



Abilene, easily accessible by four major highways, is 525 miles from the southern border and 450 to 460 miles from each of the other three borders. The major highways leading to Abilene are I-20 running east and west and Hwy's 83/84 & 277 running north and south.

Abilene Regional Airport is serviced by American Airlines - American Eagle, offering 14 flights with 672 seats daily.

Free trolley busses available in the downtown area. Other buses and Handi-vans provide transportation around the city.
