Area Overview

Mt Washington Valley, made up of 27 towns and villages in and around Mount Washington, has something for everyone. For families there are plenty of activities, miniature golf, wave Pools, swimming and lots of attractions like Story Land and Santa's Village. For the shopper there is tax-free shopping at more than 200 outlets, boutiques and shops. There are also 11 golf courses for the golfer too. Set in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest, White-Mountains and the surrounding Mt Washington Valley offers hundreds of hiking and biking trails, rushing waterfalls and easily accessible natural swimming holes. In the winter, count on 13 ski resorts and XC Centers, snowmobiling, skating, sleighrides, dog sledding and cozy fireplaces. No matter what the season, Mt Washington Valley offers everyone from couples to families to single travelers.

Mt Washington Valley is a hiker's and outdoor adventure paradise. Set in the middle of the 660,000 acre White Mountain National Forest, there's great hiking, biking, waterfalls and natural swimming holes. In the winter, count on 13 ski resorts and XC Centers and miles and miles of snowmobile trails too. Shopping? It's here and it's all tax-free.

Cultural Activities





The rich art community in North Conway NH and the surrounding Mount Washington valley is sure to satiate the most crafty visitor. From antiques to art shows and museums to music, it is all here awaiting your discovery and enjoyment.

Attractions






There are many major attractions for families from train trips on the Conway Scenic RR and the Mt Washington Valley Cog Railway to thrilling rides up the Mt Washington Auto Road. Kids and families love the rides at Santa's Village and Story Land and then there are adventure parks as our ski resorts offer up ziplines, mountain coasters and more.

Transportation



The best way to come to Mt Washington Valley is by car. If flying, there is a small private airport in Fryeburg, ME with no commercial flights. Portland, ME and Manchester, NH are the closest airports - each about 1.5 to 2 hours from Mt Washington Valley.

There is very little public transportation in Mt Washington Valley. Concord Trailways provides bus service from Boston, and otherwise those without cars can call local taxis or walk.

Best Time To Go:

Fall and summer.

The Mount Washington Valley has a snowy wintery climate (avg.20's-40's), a beautiful cool->warm spring (30's-70's), warm (and sometimes humid) summers (avg. 60's-80's), and warm->cool->cold (80's-40's) weather in the fall with spectacular foliage. Winter snowstorms are quickly cleared by our road commissions, and roads are well maintained.
